Meteor-M2 The Russian high definition weather satellite you can decode to view your local weather.
The Russian weather satellite Meteor-M2. A polar orbiting craft whose
VHF transmissions you can receive and decode to produce high definition
images of the earth. This is not a tutorial on how to do this as it is covered by a numberof You Tube videos. I have however listed the hardware and software I have used to produce these results. It is not difficult but labour intensive. I have also included a comparison between Meteor-M2 and the American NOAA range of weather satellites that you can also receive on VHF. I leave you to compare and contrast. This You Tube is collection of images showing the quality that you can achieve by careful photographic manipulation and colour enhancement. I have added many notes on when, where and direction of satellite including land masses that might be difficult to identify for non Europeans. Also included near the end of this video are raw images as they were received from the Meteor-M2 before processing and outtakes that never made the cut. By viewing this video, you must be interested in this

I used to ride a scooter on that road with no helmet when I DJ'd in Kassiopi. One day in 1994 in the pouring rain I lost control and I slid under a lorry coming the other way round a blind bend. It's a miracle I'm still alive. Great video, it brings back memories.

Great video of off the beaten track REAL Corfu. We did this in 1973 on bicycles (secondhand road bikes from London we took on the train to Athens) with just one taverna at Rida an empty beach no slum development. Corfu was a paradise then with just a few helpful modern features..... now!!!!

I did it on a bike. 18 days on a bike. Only missed the far south of the island.
At 41.27 this was the result of a landslide where the road fell away into a gorge, at 43.44 the track to the right takes you to my house. at 55.07 on the left is my little red Jimny Jeep at tet a tet cafe. And you finished up between Nerada Taverna and Beachside villas/taverna, nice little spot, by the way December 2020 roads no better lol. Hope you had a good visit, you obviously knew your way around. PS that bad road used to be a bus rout till a couple of years before the road collapsed.
You can't turn back the clock, but the way forward must be to upgrade the whole island to a more select (expensive) holiday destination with green basis - Covid might push it that way.
27:45 if you turn right you will end up being on the way to a small village named Kremithas. Everytime around Christmas, April and Summer I would go there and stay with my grandparents. Damn, this brings back a lot of memories...

Driven this road loads of times in my old van from west Cornwall in the UK (yes I've driven to Greece and back a few times) albeit you could have taken a shorter route through Corfu town. Know Corfu like the back of my hand and driven all over Greece many times. In fact I'm still driving the old van still every day back here in Cornwall.

wow i was on the very same road last yaer but from kalmata to monemvasia i took alot of time and back to athens i love your film and the wheter is very good i had very bad one best regards iL

I cycled round there in the 1970s and stayed at a couple of hostels one with a big campsite at Kontokali. The other was a hippie hostel in a big house just outside Corfu town. Lots of American backpackers, barbecues, weed etc. Cool man!

I cycled this route in 1972 with two friends. We did Kontokali to Arachavi in one day in July! I believe the main road tarmaced like this did not exist then - at least the last part was a track. We descended through some olive groves onto a DESERTED BEACH WITH NO DEVELOPMENT EXCEPT ONE TAVERNA - WE HAD THE BEACH TO OURSELVES, HAD A MEAL AT THE TAVENA AND SLEPT ON THE PORCH SLEEPING BAGS. When we woke up first light couldn't find the bikes! The tide had come in and just covered them. The owner of the tavena knew once the road was connected thousands and thousands would come. Paradise would be destroyed, but I suppose money came in. The Corfu of the 1970s was a magical under developed island - I think it's like the Costa del Sol now.
It's not just the development which has had an effect but the shoddy buildings with no thought to the aesthetics' which makes the place look tacky in places. It's not Costa Del Sol like but leaves a lot to be desired in some areas . It's not changed much in to 20 years I have lived here but did drastically between the time you were here till mid 90's but as you say many people have made a living out of the place.

When in Greece just go with the flow. Main problem being mopeds nipping out of alleyways.

Well I hope it helps anybody who might be worried about the first few hours of driving in Corfu. I have driven around at night many times but it makes bad video light wise. Are you a holiday rep or car hire employee ? The Video camera was a Panasonic HDC-SD10 with a sun-visor hood on the front. As you can see, it didn't work very well ! It would have helped if I had taken the time to clean the windscreen before setting off too. I might purchase one of those huge triple glass moving suckers and stick the camera on the roof next time, but it will probably take the paint off.
i'm a car hire employee, camerawork was very decent to be honest, as for the night driving you are correct, i was just joking because i have quite a few customers arriving in the late hours so it becomes a bit more of a task, don't think it'd damage the paint, they seem to be working on the go pro cameras!
